Our methodology
Every product review on Dogtur is currently research-based. We have not yet completed hands-on testing of our own, so we say so plainly — and we never present anyone else's testing as ours. Each review is built from:
- Gap analysis against the top-ranking reviews in the category, so we cover the subtopics readers actually need.
- Attributed independent testing — when another publication has tested a product, we cite it by name and link to it. Their findings, their credit.
- Verified owner-review analysis — patterns across real buyer reviews, described as review analysis, not as our own testing.
- Specification and ingredient verification against manufacturer and retailer listings.
Our hands-on testing roadmap
Hands-on testing is where we're headed. When we get there, this is how we'll do it — no shortcuts:
- Senior dogs first. Testers are aging dogs. A bed that works for a three-year-old athlete may fail a twelve-year-old with arthritis — we test for the dog the product is meant to serve.
- Measured, not vibes. Foam compression, weight loads, temperature consistency, wash durability — we measure what we can and photograph the rest.
- Real-world time. Products live with testers for days or weeks, not minutes. Sleep trials, daily walks, repeated washes.
- No pay-to-play. Brands cannot pay for placement or a better score. Loaned products are disclosed; most test units are purchased retail.
What a review includes today
- Attribution: where each key finding comes from — whose test, whose review data.
- Scorecard: the attributes that matter, scored from the evidence above.
- Pros and cons drawn from research notes, not marketing copy.
- Comparison table against the category's real alternatives.
- Verdict: who it's for, who should skip it.
Once hands-on testing begins, reviews will gain a testing box — what we tested, for how long, with which dogs, dated — and this page will be updated to reflect it.
Corrections
If a test was wrong or a product changes, we re-test and update the review with a dated correction note. See theeditorial policy for our corrections process.
